Maurice Taylor

MAURICE Taylor, founder and chief executive of one of the UK’s leading independent hotel management companies, Chardon Management, has won the Entrepreneurial Spirit Award at the Glasgow Restaurant Awards 2012 in recognition of his innovation and strategic vision.

Commenting on this latest award, which follows just a fortnight after he was awarded a certificate of recognition for his work as a mentor on the Business Mentoring Scotland programme, Taylor said: “I am delighted to accept this award from The Glasgow Restaurant Association, which has helped promote wider recognition of the fact that, outside of London, Glasgow offers the best dining scene in the UK.

“It is my belief that the entrepreneurial spirit that lies at the heart of the city’s hospitality sector has been central to its success and stands it in good stead for its ongoing development.”

Taylor has been recognised consistently over the years for his entrepreneurship. Indeed, he was recently inducted as an inaugural member into the Strathclyde Academy of Distinguished Entrepreneurs, a Hall of Fame created to celebrate the achievements of students and alumni that Strathclyde has produced over the years. Other inductees included Sir Tom Hunter, John Logie Baird, James ‘Paraffin’ Young, Ivor Tiefenbrun, Jim McColl, Sir Brian Souter and Ian Graham.

Throughout his years in the industry, Maurice has been the proud recipient of a plethora of awards, including Lifetime Achievement and Entrepreneur of the Year from a number of august bodies. He is currently visiting Professor at the Scottish Hotel School and holds an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Strathclyde.

Chardon manages 35 hotels and seven health and fitness clubs throughout the length and breadth of the UK and its own brand portfolio comprises: La Bonne Auberge; Limelight Bar & Grill; Triangle Health and Fitness; Tri Health & Beauty and Hoteldeals.co.uk
