TUESDAY 27th November saw Fergus Ewing MSP, Scottish Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Tourism, pay a visit to pipes, fittings and flanges stockist, John Bell Pipeline.
Mr Ewing was met by Mark Skinner, sales director, along with several other members of the growing team at their Thainstone base, near Inverurie.
Following introductions to various colleagues, Mark then gave Mr Ewing a tour of their premises at Thainstone along with their new fabrication facility which is currently under construction.
Mark commented: “I was pleased to show Mr Ewing around our premises.
“It was very gratifying to be able to demonstrate the success of John Bell Pipeline and also to explain about our diversification of products and markets which we believe has been a key factor in our growth.”
In 2006, John Bell Pipeline diversified into the GRP market – a quality moulded and pultruded fibreglass reinforced plastic used for access platforms and walkways, elevated floors, storage mezzanines, stairways and landings.
The company also supply a full package of accessories to complement their GRP stock including handrails, structural profiles, treadcovers and grit plates, grating legs and fixing clips.
The success of this product diversification has meant that John Bell Pipeline’s specialist division, JBP Structured Composites, is now one of the largest stockists and distributors of GRP in the UK.
Energy Minister, Fergus Ewing, said: “I am pleased to be able to visit John Bell Pipeline today and learn more about their operations in Scotland.
“The company’s aim of meeting all customer procurement needs from their Aberdeenshire base is to be commended, and shows the drive and ambition there is within the oil and gas industry.
“The oil and gas sector is vitally important to Scotland’s economy.
“With more than half of the value of the North Sea’s oil and gas reserves yet to be extracted, up to 24 billion recoverable barrels with a potential wholesale value of £1.5 trillion, oil and gas will remain an enormous economic resource for decades to come.
“Supply chain companies like John Bell Pipeline are of vital importance to the industry and will help to ensure its potential is maximised.
“The Scotland’s Oil and Gas Strategy, developed in conjunction with industry, lays out a plan to help the industry go from strength to strength, and rising capital investment – reaching £8.5bn in 2011 and expected to rise to £11.5bn in 2012 – demonstrates the confidence investors and the industry have in Scotland.”
