TIMES may be tight but, specialist Scottish running retailer Run 4 It claims, the humble sock is still top of the list when it comes to Christmas gifts and stocking fillers and this year they fully expect a ‘run’ on socks the week before Christmas.
Duncan Riddoch, director of Run4It, commented: “While demand for hi-tech gadgets and accessories also surge at this time of the year, demand for socks grows exponentially. In normal circumstances we would sell over 1,000 socks per month, ranging from specialist running socks to general sports socks.
“However, in the four weeks leading up to Christmas demand for socks triples and this year we expect to sell well over 4,000 in December alone.”
The swell in demand for socks, he says, is simple:
“There’s something quintessentially British about giving socks for Christmas. While everyone jokes about men running into shops on Christmas Eve desperately searching for gift vouchers and anything they can lay their hands on, we get equally as many women and children desperately running into our stores hunting for socks.
“You can’t go wrong with a pair of socks.”
