THE quirky Bogbain Farm of Inverness scooped up the Venue of the Year prize at the Trad Music Awards on Saturday night, having already been named Scotland’s Best Unusual Venue at the Scottish Event Awards in September.
The Scots Trad Music Awards celebrated its tenth year in style, with the traditional music industry out in force to award those that have made a significant contribution to the culture in the past year and beyond.
Bogbain Farm is managed by an events company run by BBC Radio Scotland and Blazin’ Fiddles founder, Bruce MacGregor, and Yvonne Murray.
Their portfolio of events at the Farm includes the Inverness Whisky Festival, BrewDog’s Brew at the Bog and the Northern Roots Festival. Gigs held at Bogbain have included the likes of Charlotte Church, Kassidy, Low Anthem as well as a whole host of folk acts.
Said MacGregor: “Audience numbers are down everywhere. With the recession, people get out of the habit of going to gigs and even with those who aren’t directly hit, the amount of hype about the recession makes them think they can’t go out either.
“There definitely needs to be a creative strategy from whoever comes in at the top of Creative Scotland.”
The duo has also recently taken over the management of Blazin’ Fiddles’ own fiddle school, Blazin’ in Beauly.
