SCOTSCARE, the charity for Scots in London in need and distress, have announced the nominees for Scot of the Year 2012. Previous winners of the annual vote include Gordon Brown, Gerard Butler and Susan Boyle.
2012 has been another great year for Scots, including the great medal haul of our Olympic athletes. There was also Ryder Cup success, big name football signings and a schoolgirl’s food blog becoming a worldwide phenomenon.
The full lists of nominees are:
Andy Murray: For winning the US Open and becoming the first British Slam winner since 1936 and also winning Olympic gold
Rickie Burns: For another successful year defending his WBO belt
Alex Salmond: For his political prowess
Scottish Olympic athletes: For bringing back 13 medals and showing true tartan spirit
J K Rowling: For making a successful move into adult fiction
Biffy Clyro: For another chart-topping year across the world
Darren Fletcher: For overcoming chronic colitis to return to the Manchester United and Scotland teams
Paul Lawrie: For being part of the amazing Ryder Cup-winning team, including his victory in the singles
Steven Fletcher: For his great start to the Premiership season and return to the Scotland squad
Emilie Sande: For another successful year, including performing at the opening and closing Olympic ceremonies
Kelly Macdonald: Another season of Boardwalk Empire under her belt and the success of Brave
Kevin Bridges: Another sell-out tour and DVD for Scotland’s funniest man
Martha Payne: For her fundraising campaign to support schools in Malawi through her great blog
Voting is available on charity website, www.scotscare.com. The winner will be announced to mark Burns Day on the 25th of January.
