OLDMELDRUM butcher, Andrew Peter, flew the Scottish Flag in London today (Thursday, November 22) when he was the only Scottish finalist in the UK’s Best Young Butcher of the Year.
Twenty-year-old Andrew Peter, who works at Davidsons Specialist Butchers in Inverurie, attended the award ceremony, hosted by the Meat Trades Journal at The Landmark London Hotel, accompanied by general manager, Steven Cusack.
Andrew, who first started working for John Davidson as a Saturday boy back in 2007 and began his full-time apprenticeship in 2010, was delighted to be in the final three, just weeks after his innovative burger won a Diamond Award at the Q-Guild Smithfield Awards.
The Juicy Lucy Burger took the third Diamond Award for Davidsons Specialist Butchers, and is made with prime Scottish steak, a melting centre of Monterey Jack cheese and a sprinkling of pickled jalapenos.
Andrew said: “After winning the UK Butcher’s Shop of the Year award last year, John was extremely pleased when I told him I wanted to enter the Young Butcher of the Year award this year.
“It’s been a great learning experience for me, and I am extremely proud to have got to the final three, and to be the only Scot in the finals made it extra special.
“To be a finalist in the Young Butcher of the Year award is fantastic – I am extremely proud of myself – it’s a great honour and reflects the hard work and dedication of the entire team at Davidsons.”
