A PERTHSHIRE hotel is encouraging Scots to stand up to the stress and costs of a traditional Christmas this year, and spend the festive season with them instead.
The Angus Hotel in Blairgowrie, Scotland, has been entertaining guests at Christmas for almost 60 years and, with the cost of Christmas at home continuing to escalate, they say that Christmas at home is no longer such a great deal for the average family.
Begins a spokesperson: “With the British Poultry Council predicting that turkey prices could rise exponentially this year, and a poor Brussel sprouts harvest meaning that we’ll be shelling out 42 per cent more on our veg, it’s not surprising that the hotel industry, with all the benefits of trade prices at their disposal, can simply offer their guests a better deal.”
Murray Scott, managing director of Scott Hotels, commented:
“This year consumers are really feeling the pinch. The cost of food has gone up considerably in recent months and there’s little that supermarkets are doing to really control the spiralling costs of food. Their core business, after all, is to sell groceries.
“In the hospitality business, looking after our customers is our prime concern – and for us that means offering a great deal, a good time and a relaxing environment.”
A three-night Christmas break at The Angus Hotel in Blairgowrie which will cost a family of four just £488, which includes overnight accommodation, live entertainment, gifts, a visit from Santa, two hearty meals a day and Christmas Day Lunch.
The spokesperson added: “Compared to the estimated average cost of Christmas Day, which according to FemaleFirst is expected to be around £478.50 this year, the opportunity to enjoy yourself without having to cook or wash up afterwards for three whole days must be tempting if the latest Asda advert bears any true resemblance to Christmas Day in the UK.”
Murray commented: “This year forget the decorations, forget cooking, forget clearing up. If you want to save money and your sanity this Christmas, there really only is one solution: get away from it all and let us shoulder the load.”
