THE Majestic Line Restaurant returns to make winter more bearable for food lovers – aboard a floating gourmet dining experience on the MV Glen Tarsan at Holy Loch Marina in Argyll on the South-west coast of Scotland.
Guests of the Majestic Line cruising company who have fond memories of enjoying the best food and drink Argyll can offer were the inspiration behind running a restaurant during the cruising off season.
Sales manager, Marie Thoms, explains: “Over the past few years we’ve received many emails and letters from guests of The Majestic Line cruises asking how they can enjoy our speciality cuisine all year round.
“As a family business it seemed an ideal opportunity to adapt to demand by opening up one of our cruising vessels as a floating restaurant so that customers could enjoy The Majestic Line experience in the winter months too.”
Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards agreed and awarded The Majestic Line ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ in November 2012 for their ability to adapt to providing Scottish hospitality at its absolute best on sea and on land all the year round.
The Glen Tarsan is one of the two beautifully-converted fishing vessels, full of original charm and character, which form the Majestic Line fleet which cruises Argyll and the Inner Hebrides.
It is the perfect setting to celebrate a very special occasion or festive get-together with friends and family and is now becoming very popular with locals too.
Marie explains: “Local people have told us they enjoy seeing our vessels cruise the coastline and we are delighted they are able to come on board to sample Majestic Line hospitality too.”
Stephen Boswell is the award-winning Majestic Line chef who is the driving force behind running the Glen Tarsan as a restaurant.
He said: “We have such an amazing variety of fabulous produce in Argyll. As we cruise the area, we get to know all the innovative food and drink producers.
“It seemed obvious to keep serving the freshest and best of seasonal Argyll produce during the off season as a restaurant.”
Staying overnight in ensuite cabins is an additional attraction to dining on the Glen Tarsan, especially with the delicious breakfast on offer with Loch Fyne kippers proving the most popular item on the menu.
All meals are served boardroom style in the beautiful oak-lined deck saloon. Guests enjoy the freedom of strolling the decks of the vessel to appreciate the tranquillity of a maritime gourmet experience. Holy Loch is fringed with mountains and the setting is idyllic.
As a ‘dark sky’ area it is the perfect opportunity to have starlight and moonlight as the backdrop to a fabulous meal.
The Glen Tarsan is ideal for small group bookings for Christmas parties or special celebrations and to get the full maritime experience it is recommended to stay overnight. Accommodation aboard the Glen Tarsan is available in six comfortable double or twin en-suite cabins.
Marie added: “Many of our guests like the magic to continue after they dine therefore we offer bed and breakfast aboard allowing guests to wake up in style to the prospect of a mouth-watering breakfast.
“There’s nothing quite like bedding down in our cosy cabins after a special evening with friends and family, the water lapping at the porthole and the night sky awash with stars.”
The Glen Tarsan can be booked Tuesday-Saturday for dinner from 6.30pm and Sunday Lunch . Exclusive use bookings can be made for any day and any time of day.

The Majestic Line Restaurant at Holy Loch Marina is open between November 1st 2012 and March 31st 2013.
The restaurant is unlicensed so guests are invited to bring their own wine and other alcoholic drinks, corkage is charged at £3.50.
