WORK got under way today on the construction of a £2million out-of-town restaurant, marking the start of a lucrative relationship between Pacific Building and pub and restaurant giants Mitchells & Butlers.
Pacific won a multi-million-pound deal that makes them the first Scottish building firm to be retained by MAB, whose brands include All Bar One, Harvester, Toby Carvery, O’Neill’s and Brown’s.
Pacific, who employ 32 people, will construct or fit out six outlets for the English-based plc, who operate 1,600 pubs and restaurants across the UK and whose annual turnover is in excess of £1.7billion.
Preparations for the construction of an all-new £2million Toby Carvery, near at Braehead Shopping Centre, on the outskirts of Glasgow, commenced on-site this morning. It is due to be completed at the end of March.
This will be followed by other projects for other brands in the MAB stable in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Perth and Fife, all amounting to a total value of £4million. It is hoped further work in Scotland and the north-east of England will follow.
The contract has been awarded to Pacific, who have a growing reputation as a fast fitout and construction company who can operate in a diverse array of sectors, under MAB’s demanding Strategic Alliance Benchmark Tender.
And it means Pacific can now claim to be the only Scottish contractor serving burger empire McDonald’s, pub chain JD Wetherspoon, bakery firm Greggs as well as Mitchells & Butlers.
Managing director, Brian Gallacher, said: “Winning the contract with Mitchells & Butlers is an astounding achievement, especially during the current economic downturn, which has proved extremely difficult for the construction sector right across the UK and the rest of the world.
“Now, it’s good to get cracking with the Toby Carvery, which will be a valuable addition to the Braehead shopping experience and to the area generally.
“We’re proud to deliver high quality, and our business is built on the strength of our relationships with our clients.
“We have enjoyed continued growth, in part through our associations with global and UK brands who continue to develop their business.
“By continually meeting and exceeding their expectations, we are rewarded with greater volumes of work. Our growth has continued to exceed our budgeted plans and is a credit to the efforts of the team here.”
Last year, Pacific’s turnover rose by 30 per cent to £9.7million, up from £7.6million, thanks to the successful completion of contracts for McDonald’s, JD Wetherspoon, Gleneagles Hotel, Greggs, KFC and airport operators BAA.
Pacific’s relationship with BAA is enhanced by the fact that they have an ancillary office adjacent to the perimeter at Glasgow International Airport and many of their team hold ‘airside passes’, which means they have the experience and requisite clearance to work in airside, landside and aircraft manoeuvring areas.
