SCOTTISH singer-songwriter, Charlotte Gordon Cumming, is performing a benefit concert on the 15th November at St Paul’s Church Covent Garden (the Actor’s Church) in aid of the charity, Give a Kidney, which aims to raise awareness of altruistic living kidney donation; the act of a living person donating their kidney to someone with kidney failure.
Charlotte has been a supporter of live kidney donation for many years after she, her husband (Nicholas Evans, author of The Horse Whisperer), her brother and his wife were all poisoned after mistakenly eating deadly webcap mushrooms in September 2008. Miraculously, they all survived, but with varying levels of kidney failure.
Due to the kindness of a friend, Charlotte was offered a new kidney and has recently had a highly successful transplant operation. This is her first concert since the operation.
The concert will include songs from her previous album, Mind Walking (2006), as well as her most recent album, The Brave Songs, inspired by her husband’s latest novel The Brave. She will also be performing her upcoming single Mary, Queen of Scots.
Tickets will be £22, with NHS workers with valid ID getting in for half price, and are available from www.seetickets.com (full link to event below). The event starts at 8pm but the bar will be open from 7pm.
Charlotte herself is very excited about the event. She said: “As some of you may be aware, this is a cause very close to my heart. I have a wonderful band and choir to help me out on the evening. I’m really looking forward to it.”
