RED Cross charity shops throughout Scotland are preparing for a great giveaway – to help you prepare for winter.
On Wednesday 31 October, all 56 of the humanitarian organisation’s shops across the country are staging a special afternoon event as part of the Ready For Winter? campaign.
In addition to their usual stock of high-quality low-price goods, the shops will have Red Cross volunteers and staff on hand to give out grab bags, ponchos, calendars, information and advice on how to prepare for severe weather during winter – and at other times of the year.
This is the second year the Red Cross has delivered the Ready For Winter? campaign, in partnership with the Scottish Government.
It’s all about helping the people of Scotland prepare for severe weather, enabling individuals, families and communities to better withstand the crises that our unpredictable climate can cause.
David Miller, Red Cross operations director for East Scotland, said: “Red Cross shops are an important part of communities up and down Scotland and we have a huge number of loyal, regular customers.
“We want to look after our valued customers and help their local communities prepare for the hard times that severe weather can bring. Last winter was one of the mildest in decades, yet there was still a huge amount of damage and hardship caused by flooding and high winds.
“By taking just a few simple steps, we can all be better prepared to withstand whatever the weather throws at us during winter and at other times of the year.
“Whether it’s at home, on the move, in the workplace or in your community, we all need to consider the risk of severe weather. It’s not difficult and it doesn’t need to cost you a fortune.”
All the giveaways such as the grab bags and ponchos on offer will be on a strictly first-come first-served basis and will be available at all Red Cross shops in Scotland between 2pm and 5pm on Wednesday, 31 October.
If you can’t get along to a Red Cross shop for the great griveaway afternoon, it’s still easy to get free advice on how to get ready for winter.
