A HAIRDRESSING student from Fife, who has been adding to her qualifications with top Scottish hairdresser, Charlie Taylor, has been named top of the class in an awards programme run by the Hairdressing Council in association with L’Oréal Professionnel and the Vocational Training Charitable Trust.
Charlene Duthie-Vaughan (28) from Inverkeithing in Fife, who has been training with the Charlie Taylor Academy in Dundee, survived regional heats to be named one of the eight national finalists to compete in the live final held at L’Oreal studios in London on Saturday.
Charlene went head-to-head with her fellow finalists, to lift the crown for Student of the Year at the hairdressing industry’s mega-event Salon International that same day.
She will now enjoy a host of fantastic prizes which includes an iPad 2, a day with top British hairdresser, Andrew Barton, tea at the House of Commons and vouchers for training courses with both L’Oréal and Wella.
Commenting on her win, Charlene said: “I’m over the moon and completely blown away by this achievement. It was a fantastic experience to compete in such an event, and even more amazing to win.
“Charlie has really helped nurture my skills as a hairdresser and I cannot thank her enough for her encouragement and training advice along the way.”
Charlie Taylor, commented: “Charlene is a fantastic hairdresser and I’m sure this is just the tip of the iceberg – she has a great career ahead of her and I’m certain she’ll do very well indeed.
“She’s worked hard, she’s passionate about hairdressing and this award reflects her determination to succeed in her chosen career as a professional hairdresser.”
