Media Release: Reef Subsea awarded ROV service contract by Statoil in Norway

REEF Subsea today announced that its subsidiary company, Reef Subsea Norway, based in Bergen, has been awarded a ROV service contract for seabed gravity and subsidence monitoring on Statfjord, Mikkel and Ormen Lange subsea fields offshore Norway operated by Statoil and A/S Norske Shell.

The 21-day contract has an option for 24 additional days.

Reef Subsea Norway (previously known as Technocean) will provide all onshore and offshore project management for the ROV part of the project.

The company has mobilised Reef Subsea’s newly built dynamic positioning subsea construction vessel Reef Larissa, which will use her permanently installed Triton XLX Work-Class ROV systems, as the contract requires a large number of dives to complete the measurements on the seafloor.

The dives will take place in depths ranging from 145 to more than 1100mwd to measure seabed gravity and subsidence monitoring on all three fields from stations typically 2-4km apart.

Seabed temperatures at Ormen Lange are between 0 and -1°C.

The ROVs will deploy a special gravimeter instrument package with deployment arm on the seabed, which is provided by the company Gravitude AS.

Tim Sheehan, chief operating officer of Reef Subsea, said: “We are delighted with this first contract with both Statoil and A/S Norske Shell for our new vessel Reef Larissa.

“Our fleet of DP subsea construction vessels is versatile and can handle a large range of subsea services.

“We will do our best to demonstrate Reef Subsea is a reliable and trustful partner.”

Duncan MacPherson, managing director of Reef Subsea Norway, added: “We are very proud to be working for both Statoil and A/S Norske Shell and to bring them the best services we can on this challenging project.”
