WELCOMING today’s (Tuesday 26th September) announcement – by Cabinet Secretary for Infrastructure, Nicola Sturgeon, of £10 million new government funding for energy efficiency measures in affordable housing (1) – the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations (SFHA), said this move would have important social and economic benefits.
SFHA policy manager, David Stewart, said: “The Scottish Federation of Housing Associations welcomes the announcement by Cabinet Secretary for infrastructure of £10 million of new money for affordable housing providers to improve the energy efficiency of housing.
“With one third of social housing tenants in fuel poverty, and potential economic benefits to be had by upgrading our housing stock, we are keen to see further improvements to the energy efficiency of new build affordable housing.”
The SFHA is a member of the Existing Homes Alliance Scotland and the Scottish Government’s Fuel Poverty Forum, and has campaigned consistently for extra investment in energy efficiency measures in Scotland’s housing stock (2).
