AFTER an exciting summer, the fun is set to continue in Lanarkshire this autumn with a feast of festivals, music, exhibitions and family activities on offer.
One of the area’s most popular annual events is in Biggar, where the quiet country town has been transformed into a cultural haven for Biggar Little Festival.
Celebrating its tenthanniversary, this vibrant festival of fine arts brings together music of all varieties, art exhibits, craft workshops, theatre and storytelling, with events running from Saturday October 6 until Saturday October 28.
A highlight of the festival is the Biggar Day Out, taking place on Sunday October 21, made even more special as the town looks back at a decade the Biggar Little Festival.
Shops, cafes, museums, arts groups and other local business throughout the town will come together to provide a wide range of activities and entertainment for all the family and the day offers visitors the opportunity to see the festival at its most vibrant and enjoy a great family day out.
Other events across Lanarkshire this October include the month-long Encounters 2012 North Lanarkshire Festival that will bring the best of literature, the arts, music, storytelling, drama and dance to the region.
Some of the highlights are: author sessions with Iain Banks, Tam Dalyell and David Hewson; schools events with award-winning writers, Kjartan Poskitt and Allan Burnett; and musical events with Tom Hingley and the Airdrie Songwriters’ Club.
Scotland’s Theme Park, M&D’s, is also pulling out the stops this month as its highly successful US style ‘drive-in’ movie theatre returns to host a ghoulish weekend of Halloween films from Friday October 26 until Sunday October 28.
Films being shown include Harry Potter: Deathly Hallows Parts 1&2 and Despicable Me as early evening family favourites with the adult offering including chilling thrillers The Woman In Black and Shutter Island.
Stephen Balfour, of VisitLanarkshire, comments: “There has been a lot going on in Lanarkshire over the last few months and the schedule remains packed as we head into October.
“With such a diverse mix of events and activities, the region has something for everyone and, with our accommodation and visitor attraction partners currently offering some fantastic deals, now is the perfect time for visitors to enjoy a great Lanarkshire experience.”
Lanarkshire boasts a wide range of cottages, hotels and B&B accommodation and, until the end of October, VisitLanarkshire is offering a series of selected special offers including attraction ticket offers starting from as little as £1 for a family of four.
