TORRIDON Youth Hostel has recently been awarded Gold in the Green Tourism Business Scheme Award.
The accolade is in recognition of the environmental initiatives put in place, which include comprehensive green information for guests, a good waste management system and reuse of different materials.
Situated in the wild and remote area at the head of Upper Loch Torridon, the Youth Hostel is a great option for walkers and climbers as well as those simply wishing to relax and enjoy the wildlife.
The building is purpose built and offers modern facilities for outdoor enthusiasts – it also accommodates the local Mountain Rescue service.
The four-star Youth Hostel is recommended by TripAdvisor and this new Green Tourism achievement can be accredited to Mat, Emily and Jo – the team at Torridon Youth Hostel.
They are very aware of environmental issues and committed to working as sustainably as possible.
Keith Legge, CEO of SYHA Hostelling Scotland, said: “There is a strong culture of environmental awareness among SYHA staff which reflects the wider ‘green’ ethos of hostelling. Feedback reveals that our guests value eco-initiatives and the importance of travelling in a way that is sustainable.
“I am very pleased to see Torridon Youth Hostel join Lochranza, Port Charlotte and Ullapool Youth Hostels at the top of the Green Tourism Awards podium.”
Mat Webster, manager of Torridon Youth Hostel, said: “We are absolutely delighted that Torridon has won this award. With its beautiful scenery, wildlife and opportunities for outdoor adventure, Torridon is a wonderful place to explore and a great destination for hill walking and climbing.”
