MEMBERS of the tech community in Scotland will lead a fundraising event, CREW Scotland (#CREWScotland) for sick children’s charity, Yorkhill Children’s Foundation, with Commonwealth gold medallist, Steve Frew.
It is taking place on Friday, August 24.
Led by Cisco employees in Scotland, this charity event raised £25,000 last year for Edinburgh Sick Kids’ Friends’ Foundation through cycling, running, eating and walking activities in Edinburgh.
This year, the team will repeat the same activities in a bid to raise a similar amount for Yorkhill Children’s Foundation.
During the day, on Friday August 24, around 100 people will take part in cycling, walking and running in Glasgow. The cycle will start at Pollok Park and then go through Giffnock and Newton Mearns and Eaglesham, then back to Glasgow via the ‘Big Dipper’ route.
Runners will run (or walk!) ten kilometres through Pollok Park with Commonwealth gold medallist, Steve Frew.
The walk will be a five -mile guided walk around Pollok Park, including a chance to learn about Pollok House, the Burrell Collection and walled garden.
In the evening, 200 guests will attend a black tie dinner at the Marriott hotel in Glasgow which is just £50 per head, including champagne reception, dinner and entertainment.
Andrew Bisset, business manager at Cisco, commented: “CREW Scotland allows our business partners, supporters, friends and family to participate in at least one of the activities during the day and or the dinner in the evening.
“It gives everyone the chance to meet old friends and make new ones and most importantly to raise funds to support the foundation.”
David Welch, director of fundraising at Yorkhill Children’s Foundation, said: “We are delighted to be the beneficiary of the CREW Scotland event and we are looking forward to working with the Cisco team to help them reach their fundraising target.
“This fantastic amount will help us to fund our vital projects within Yorkhill Hospital and related facilities. We are extremely grateful for their support.”
Julie Moulsdale, managing director of Perceptive Partners Communications, commented: “We are very pleased to be providing pro-bono PR and social media support for this event and to have supported the charity over last three years.
“Yorkhill Children’s Foundation helps tens of thousands of sick babies and children every year across Scotland and it is a cause very close to our hearts.
“The event is a fantastic opportunity to have some fun with your team, while supporting such a deserving cause. ”
