A NEW annual exhibition showcasing the latest in home design, improvements and interiors has announced its chosen charity for the event.

The Scottish Home Show 2012 will be supporting Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS).

The event, which is being held at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre on 1-2 September, is the first major home event to the North-east in recent years aimed at highlighting the very best in innovative home designs and home improvements.

Says a spokesperson: “CHAS is a charity that provides the only hospice services in Scotland for children and young people with life-shortening conditions.

“The charity runs two hospices, Rachel House in Kinross and Robin House in Balloch and a CHAS at Home service that offers specialist care and support to families in the comfort of their own home when they need it most.

“The charity will have a special display at the exhibition featuring a bedroom of a typical five year-old girl but with medical equipment commonly associated with a child with a life-shortening condition, as well as some multi-sensory aids used by their care team.

“It is hoped that the display will illustrate the reality of what families using the CHAS at Home service cope with on a daily basis. CHAS volunteers will also be there to explain the services they provide to families across Scotland.|

Aberdeen regional fundraising manager for CHAS, David Strathearn, said: “Home is undoubtedly where the heart is and for many of the families who use our CHAS at Home service, it’s a real comfort to know that we can offer care and support at home to look after their child.

“It’s really great for us to have a presence at the Scottish Home Show 2012 and we hope people will come along and find out more about how they can make a difference to children with life shortening conditions.”

Director of the Scottish Home Show, Darren Ross, said: “We are delighted to have CHAS on board as they offer a truly fantastic service at their two hospices in Scotland. We are hoping to raise awareness of the CHAS at Home service at the event and educate the public about the support the charity offers.”

CHAS is currently supporting more than 250 families in Scotland as well as a number of families who receive bereavement support and more than £7 million needs to be raised each year for the charity to continue its work in Scotland.

The Scottish Home Show, in association with Thistle Windows and Conservatories, is being supported by a range of North-east firms with Stewart Milne Homes as gold sponsor, Laings DirectLine Bathrooms & Kitchens and Drumrossie Homes as silver sponsors and Dandara as media sponsor and joint TV sponsor with Grampian Continental.
