WHICH chemical element is named after a village in Scotland? Stephen Hawking gave his voice to which Pink Floyd song? And what is the gestation period for a lion?

A Question of Science Dinner and Quiz returns to Glasgow Science Centre on October 11th.

Professor Robert Winston will host the second annual dinner and the Centre would like to invite people and organisations to secure a table at what promises to be one of the most fascinating evenings of the year.

Professor Winston’s career spans everything from superlative achievements in serious science, particularly in human biology and genetics, to equally impressive stints in the theatre, on TV, in the House of Lords as a Labour Whip and as Baron Winston of Hammersmith.

Fittingly in this year of sport, he will be talking on the subject of genetics, what makes us what we are and how science goes some way to explaining differences between our physical capabilities and performance.

The evening will follow the very popular format of last year’s successful evening with Professor Brian Cox, comprising a cocktail reception, Lord Winston’s presentation and questions from the floor, and a superb three-course dinner to accompany the fun ‘Question of Science’ quiz.

Stephen Breslin, chief executive of Glasgow Science Centre, said:

“Our Question of Science event epitomises the Science Centre’s mission- to promote science and technology through thought-provoking, fun and exciting experiences.

“Scotland makes great contributions to science and technology and ‘Question of Science’ gives people from business, scientific and academic organisations the opportunity to come together and celebrate in an innovative and entertaining way.

“The highlight of the night for me, and for many others, will be Professor Robert Winston.

“Professor Winston has achieved so much in his own career and has done so much to promote wider public engagement with science, it will be a real honour to welcome him to the Science Centre.”

The quiz is a proven ‘ice-breaker’ generating discussion, friendly competition (and a noticeable amount of banter) as well as offering some spectacular demonstrations and intriguing puzzles.

It offers great networking opportunities for developing new partnerships, a unique way to thank contacts and customers, and to reward colleagues and employees.

Perhaps most of all, it is insightful and stimulating, as well as great fun, making it an occasion people will relish talking about.

Tickets cost £750 ex VAT for one table of ten or individual tickets can be purchased for £90 each.

Included in the ticket price are a Champagne reception, three course dinner and participation in the quiz.

Success has its rewards and the winning team will be presented with the coveted GSC ‘A Question of Science’ trophy.
