Media Release: World-renowned dance training at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland

ONE of the most prestigious dance courses in the world is being launched at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

The Royal Academy of Dance Syllabus (RAD) is the latest world-class course to be offered at Scotland’s international conservatoire.

And this weekend (Saturday 28 July), the full range of classes will be on show to prospective students at a one-off, free open day.

Once on the RAD course, students will be taught by qualified RAD teacher, Megan Christie.

“This is a unique course and offers young people ballet training to the highest standard,” explained Megan. “Classes are open to male and female dancers and will be taught at the specialist dance studios in Speirs Locks.”

Twenty-one year-old Megan, from St Andrews, was trained at Scottish Ballet Junior Associates and at The Dance School of Scotland before moving to London to gain her BA (Hons) Ballet Education and Licentiate programmes at the Royal Academy of Dance.

Megan is also qualified at Advanced 2 RAD ballet level, making her an associate of the Royal Academy Dance. For the last two years, Megan has been on the faculty for the RAD Dance School in London.

The Royal Conservatoire RAD classes begin on August 22 2012 and this weekend the purpose-built dance facilities at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland will open its doors for a specialist dance open day.

“The Open Day is an important opportunity for prospective students to see our dance spaces, meet the teaching staff, participate in a taster class and ask any questions they may have about the course,” added Megan.

“It’s an exciting time and we are very much looking forward to providing this level of training.”

The courses will follow RAD Graded/Vocational Examination syllabus. Students will work in professional dance spaces with accompaniment from a pianist and at the end of each grade, students will be assessed by an RAD examiner. The course is open to dancers offering Primary through to Intermediate stage.

“The RAD syllabus is world renowned. Each dancer on this course will be taught to develop motor control, self-expression, physical fitness, discipline and confidence. If you want to study dance then this is the course for you.”
