TRATTORIA Fanelli’s in Merchant Square, in the heart of Glasgow’s historic Merchant City, has been refreshed to make it even more attractive to diners – and the revamp has already led to a flood of new faces at the popular restaurant.
Fresh from removing wooden decking from its terrace, relocating its bar and investing in new furniture, the new-look Fanelli’s is presenting an even more welcoming front than before – and reaping the rewards for its bold makeover.
Fiona Robertson, manager at Fanelli’s said: “Our fresh face is already attracting new customers, while the ingredients that made Fanelli’s popular in the first place – our menu and our distinctive red chequered tablecloths – remain intact, much to the delight of our regulars.”

Priding itself on serving a classic Italian style menu, Fanelli’s rustic selection is enhanced by the use of locally sourced, seasonal produce which is reflected in its ever-changing specials board.
The restaurant, which uses simple fresh ingredients, prepared and cooked with true Italian passion, has also introduced a new ‘Italian with a Scottish Twist’ section to its menu, featuring such dishes as: haggis cannelloni; Stornoway black pudding and haggis pizza; Arbroath smokies risotto; Fusilli salmon and Cranachan.
Located on Candleriggs at the heart of the Merchant City, Glasgow’s cultural, fashion and food quarter, Merchant Square offers an eclectic selection of restaurants and cafes.
Once part of the old Glasgow Fruit Market, Merchant Square is imbued with the history of the area’s dominating Victorian architecture, although today this sense of history blends seamlessly with the distinctly cosmopolitan ambiance that pervades the surrounding cobbled streets that bring the outside in.
