TWO young Scots singers have been handed the opportunity of a lifetime after being confirmed as the support acts for global music icon, Tom Jones, when he appears at Hamilton Park this Friday.
Edinburgh singer/songwriter, Carrie Mac, and solo artist, TJ Bilham, have been chosen to warm the crowd ahead of the Welsh superstar’s live concert in Scotland this weekend.
The capital’s Carrie Mac – who cites Fleetwood Mac, Katy Perry and Kelly Clarkson as her influences – has previously supported The Proclaimers, Sandi Thom and Tommy Reilly – but singing live on the same billing as Tom Jones is set to eclipse all that.
It will be an even shorter journey to Hamilton for TJ Bilham, now based in his mum’s hometown of Glasgow where he works with top songwriter John McLaughlin.
The critically acclaimed singer will perform his own ‘pop rocking ballads’, including One More Kiss, Close Your Eyes and Summertime.
The announcement completes the line-up for Friday night’s gig for which a limited number of tickets are still available from £35, although all hospitality places are now completely sold out.
Tickets will also be available at the gate on the night.
Steps and Peter Andre appear at the same venue the following evening.
Sir Tom Jones – full name Sir Thomas John Woodward OBE – achieved worldwide fame early in his career, topping the charts around the world with hits such as It’s Not Unusual and Green, Green Grass of Home.
He’s sold more than 100 million records in a glittering 46-year entertainment career.
Hamilton Park chief executive, Vivien Kyles, said: “The excitement has been building in the lead-up to Friday night and the announcement that Carrie Mac and TJ Bilham will support Tom Jones has only added to that.
“It’s great to see new, fresh talent being given an opportunity like this.
“Now, everyone who has bought a ticket will enjoy even more value for money, and they might just see a star of the future – in addition to a true superstar of the present day.
“On what is a huge weekend of live music in Scotland, Hamilton Park is providing a unique package of pop.”
The live concert featuring Tom Jones is a huge feat for Hamilton Park and builds on the success the racecourse has had working with Liz Hobbs Group on two consecutive summers of major acts performing live at the venue, with JLS, The Wanted and Westlife helping generate capacity crowds at the Lanarkshire venue.
