DUNDEE-headquartered Shepherd Chartered Surveyors is to sponsor the first derby match to be held in Dundee for three years – when Dundee FC host Dundee United FC at Dens Park on Saturday 14 July.
The five-figure sponsorship deal, which will see both team strips feature the surveyor’s distinctive triangular logo, is the brainchild of John Bennett, former senior partner at Shepherd, who has ‘a foot in both team camps’ as a director of Dundee United whilst also owning rival Dundee FC’s home ground, Dens Park.
Mr Bennett said: “Shepherd has a long and valued association with Dundee and it is because of this that we jumped at the opportunity to lend our support to this tremendous derby – something of a rare occurrence over recent years.
“From what I gather, the Dundee derby is likely to be a sell-out crowd, with fans of both teams snapping up the tickets. This sponsorship gives us a great opportunity to lend our support to both teams.”
Says a spokesperson: “The all-ticket Dundee derby kicks off on Saturday 14 July at 3pm with prices set at only £12 for adults and £6 for concessions. All proceeds from the game will be shared on an equal basis as both clubs look to strengthen the respective managers’ budgets in advance of the new season.”
Whilst Shepherd’s origins stretch back to 1760, the year when Orcadian, David Shepherd, set up trade as a joiner, it was in 1806 that Robert Shepherd, joiner, master wright and Free Burgess of the city, extended the business in Dundee as a house factor.
