WATERSTONES at The Avenue Shopping Centre in Newton Mearns is set to celebrate securing the top slot in the UK for Lego sales with the launch of a special Lego Team GB swap shop event.
Two extra special Lego swap shops take place at Waterstones on Saturday 7th July at 11am and 2pm, so anyone with any duplicate Lego minifigures can take them along and see whether they can swap them.
Speed building competitions and other challenges will also be held within the store, with chocolate medallions handed out to the winners.
Michelle McCabe, centre manager at The Avenue, said: “Waterstones at The Avenue has shot up from being the 75th to the number one store in the UK for Lego sales which, given that there are 300 Waterstones throughout the country, is an impressive feat!
“At least part of that achievement must be down to store manager Craig Birrell, who is a self-confessed Lego fanatic, so congratulations to Craig and his number one team!”
When the Early Learning Centre closed its outlet in The Avenue last year, Waterstones invested in its children’s range and introduced a dedicated Lego Bay. And over the last six weeks, Waterstones at The Avenue has sold some 200 Lego units, ranging from minifigures retailing at £1.99 up to £25 sets.
Craig Birrell, Waterstones store manager, said: “At the last Lego swap shop event in The Avenue we sold 75 figures in four hours. We’re confident that the launch of the Lego Team GB featuring Olympic minifigures will help us smash that record.”
With spaces strictly limited to 15 per session, anyone interested in taking part at the Lego swap shops on Saturday 7th July is invited to leave their name at the store in advance to book a place.
