LEADING mid-tier accountancy firm, French Duncan, is sponsoring Converge Challenge 2012, the pan-Scotland business competition run by Heriot-Watt University.

Says a spokesperson: “Open to all staff, postgraduate and final year undergraduate students in Scottish universities, Converge Challenge is focused on developing entrepreneurial skills of students and scientists through rigorous engagement, with participants receiving training, coaching and one-to-one mentoring.

“A cash prize of £25,000 for the winner can be used for matching a SMART:Feasibility award; the Scottish Enterprise flagship programme which supports high growth, high tech companies with significant commercial potential and on the cutting edge of innovation.

“There will also be an additional package of support worth £20,000 that includes legal and financial advice, business mentorship and coaching as well as branding and marketing services.”

Jeff Meek, partner at French Duncan, said: “We’re delighted to assist the creation of the next generation of Scottish entrepreneurs through sponsorship of Converge Challenge.

“As an independent Scottish firm of chartered accountants and business advisors, we are fully supportive of the competition’s goal to provide students and staff with commercial skills that would make them more employable and enable them to bring to market novel products and services helping Scotland grow as a prospering competitive economy.

“With extensive experience working alongside young companies and university spin-outs, helping to grow profitable businesses and protect ownership by winning support from existing and new backers, French Duncan has a range of skills that can help such companies ensure that they don’t make decisions at the outset that they might regret later.”

French Duncan’s comprehensive advisory service is well positioned to supply relevant and practical advice with particular emphasis on the development of strategic plans and forecasts as well as the raising of capital and grants for new and existing businesses, claiming R&D tax credits, providing accounting services, payroll and VAT.
