A LEADING occupational health company has announced new, enhanced measures to safeguard important offshore medical documents.
On July 1st, RS Occupational Health – which operates from Aberdeen, Inverness and Great Yarmouth – will launch a secure certificate system which guarantees the validity of all certificates produced by the company.
An unique serial number for each certificate and personal information can be entered into the RS Occupational Health website for immediate confirmation of validity, thus reducing the risk of forgery.
The announcement follows £100,000 investment in improving customer service and experience with the launch of the bespoke, cloud-based system COMMS (Comprehensive Online Medical Management System) which is provided at no additional cost to clients.
COMMS is already producing major benefits for clients using the system, allowing immediate access to information at all times without compromising medical confidentiality and data protection.
Dr Andrew Goodge, of RS Occupational Health, said: “In recent years, advances in medical science have enabled doctors to support individuals with quite complex medical problems to continue working offshore.
“There do however remain some medical conditions which are incompatible with working offshore and such individuals would represent a serious threat to the safety of themselves or others.
“Most offshore workers have considerable respect for their own and other’s safety and therefore respect the doctor’s decision regarding their fitness to work offshore.
“However, in our role providing medical administrative support to Oil and Gas UK, we have referred to us a small but significant number of forged medical fitness certificates.”
He added: “Our new system provides an important extra level of security that other systems don’t offer. It also underlines our ongoing commitment to raising standards in the company and the wider industry.”
