MORE than 200 people turned out to hear of the work being done by Irvine Bay Regeneration Company at the organisation’s innovative annual public meeting.
In particular, attendees heard chief executive, Patrick Wiggins, talk through the work being carried out to revitalise Irvine town centre – along with partners, North Ayrshire Council, in the Irvine Town Centre Initiative – and also explain the benefits that Enterprise Area status will bring to parts of the town.
For the first time, the APM took place twice in the same day – at 11 am and 6pm – to give people the best possible chance of attending.
And in another unusual step, designed to allow people the chance to take a more active role, walking tours meant members of the public and local businesses could see for themselves some of the work underway to regenerate the town centre of Irvine.
Walking tours took place, between the end of the first meeting and the beginning of the second in the town’s Volunteer Rooms.
The meeting heard of progress on the Irvine town centre initiative work which focuses on four major projects, with Irvine Bay most closely involved in the public realm improvements at Bridgegate and in finding new life for Trinity Church.
In addition, Patrick Wiggins updated the meeting on the wider scope of regeneration projects taking place around the region – including the towns of Kilwinning, Saltcoats, Ardrossan and Stevenston.
The message, he said, “is very much that we are here for the long-term, that the regeneration company continues to offer the flexibility to adapt to significant changes in economic and market conditions and to maximise the impact we have”.
He added: “Our journey continues as we continue to refine and adapt to market conditions and changing economic circumstances.
“In particular, the recent awarding of Enterprise Area status in Irvine is a major boost, and will help us to attract investment and jobs.”
