THE beginning of May saw an ‘Ask the Experts’ webinar on Agency Workers Regulations (AWR). This involved members of The Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC) having the opportunity to raise the latest implementation queries. With the aim of obtaining useful feedback on how employers and workers are approaching AWR.
The webinar covered member queries on issues such as the “calculation of holiday entitlements, managing request for information and the way that ‘pay between Assignment’ models are playing out”, involving over 140 participants.
A poll of REC members help curate the following information that helped detail the impact of AWR:
* Overall demand for agency staff, 86 per cent of members said the regulations were having a modest impact or no impact at all on demand with 15 per cent reporting a significant impact
* 40 per cent of members says that workers were not really aware of the regulations, with 51 per cent saying that workers were aware of the regulations but were ‘just getting on with things’
* Eight per cent of members predicted a surge in AWR-related tribunal activity over the coming six months.
This follows the recent news that umbrella company prospects are on the rise with 84 per cent of employers looking to maintain their number of agency workers and also in many cases increase their number of agency workers throughout the next 12 months, even with the tough economic climate that currently exists.
