LEADING mid-tier accountancy practice, French Duncan, has appointed Bruce Gellatly, former partner at Ernst & Young, as managing partner of its Edinburgh office.
Having joined the firm a year ago as an audit partner, Gellatly’s assumption of the role of managing partner in Edinburgh follows the recent appointment of Jeff Meek, former long-term managing partner in Edinburgh, as head of French Duncan’s new forensic accounting department.
Gellatly said: “I’m delighted to take on the role as managing partner of the Edinburgh office and look forward to growing the practice in Edinburgh, working with SMEs and developing businesses in parallel with Jeff Meek.
“Since French Duncan’s merger with McCabes four years ago, the practice has enjoyed a period of sustained growth.
“I joined just over a year ago and, since then, the Edinburgh office has been successful in winning significant amounts of work within the property management and manufacturing sectors, has broadened the scope of its client base geographically and has been successful in securing a number of audit appointments in competitive tender.”
French Duncan’s Edinburgh office is home to five partners, two directors and a staff of 30. In addition to its recently launched forensic accounting department, other services introduced to the Edinburgh market over recent years include an insolvency division and a new VAT department led by former Johnston Carmichael director Craig Mathieson.
It has also bolstered significantly its corporate finance offering in the capital with the appointment last year of corporate finance director, Harry Linklater, presently engaged in the marketing of a number of companies, including Gleaner Oils.

Formerly an audit partner with Ernst & Young for 20 years, during which time he worked in a variety of senior roles and locations, including London, Aberdeen, USA and Libya, Gellatly was latterly head of risk for UK and Ireland. He is from Brechin and is a fan of Jensen classic cars.
