GENEROUS company man, Paul Henderson, has let his feet do the talking after tackling a 185-mile cycle ride for charity.
Paul, who is the sales and marketing director for Borders-based water engineering firm, Panton McLeod, raised £350 for the Bubble Foundation which works to save the lives of babies and children born without an immune system from a specialist unit in Newcastle.
A keen cyclist, Paul took on the challenging three day cycle ride along the historical Borders Reivers Trail making it his first charity cycle challenge.
He said: “I’ve wanted to do a charity cycle for a couple of years but haven’t had the opportunity to do it, so after hearing a group of friends were doing the Reivers Trail I jumped at the chance.
“Seven of us completed the route and it was a tough three days but when you’re pushing yourself for such a good cause it makes it completely worth the while and I felt a huge sense of achievement once I’d completed it.
“I chose the Bubble Foundation as other family members have previously chosen to raise funds for the charity, I suppose they have become the family’s nominated charity, they carry out amazing work which helps families from all over the North of England, Scotland and Ireland.”
Paul who lives in South Shields managed to incorporate his gruelling training schedule with work by cycling to and from Panton McLeod’s recently-opened South Shields office.
He added: “Although I cycle pretty regularly I made sure I was prepared by cycling to work and trained with friends at the weekend but it didn’t prepare us when we ended up lost and trekking through the forest for half an hour before we found our way again. But these things happen and in a way it turned the day into more of an adventure.
“We are still receiving donations and in total we aim to raise £850 with the others having chosen to raise funds for children’s charity, Coco.
“The generosity of our family and friends has been fantastic so a huge thank you goes out to those who supported us. I really enjoyed the challenge and have already started thinking about the next challenge.”
