THE award-winning Avenue Shopping Centre in Newton Mearns has received an extra-special gift from a familiar face to help shoppers with restricted mobility.
BJ Hopkins, former centre manager at The Avenue and a familiar face to many regular shoppers, kindly gifted his own £2,500 electric scooter to The Avenue for free use by shoppers.
Accepting the gift on behalf of the Avenue, Michelle McCabe, Hopkins’ successor as centre manager, said: “The high regard within which BJ is held by many shoppers at The Avenue is evident every day as we receive a constant stream of enquiries about him.
“The donation of this electric scooter is a tremendous gesture of goodwill which will make life that bit easier for any shopper with restricted mobility. BJ’s gift is greatly appreciated and I would like to thank him on behalf of all our shoppers.”
The gifted scooter takes the Avenue’s fleet of vehicles for people with restricted mobility to two electric scooters, an electric wheelchair and three manual wheelchairs, all of which can be booked by shoppers in advance for up to three hours per free hire.
