STAFF at Aberdeen-based oilfield services company, Uniconn Integrated Solutions, will be their showing support to its sponsored driver, John Morrison, this weekend (Saturday, April 14, 2012) as his Group N Mitsubishi Evo 9 roars into action, competing in third round of the Scottish Rally Championships – the Coltel Granite City Rally.
Says a spokesperson: “This is the second year in which Uniconn has taken sponsorship with John Morrison, of Dingwall, and hopes are high that he can achieve a top ten placing in this weekend’s rally along with his co-driver, Peter Carstairs of St Andrews.
“More than 100 teams will face over 40 miles of flat-out competition, taking to the start line at the event at Inverurie’s Thainstone Mart.”
John Morrison comments: “I have competed in the Granite City Rally for the past 18 years and find it always lives up to its name as one of the most famous stages in the Scottish Rally Championship.
“My best placing in this stage is ninth overall, and this year I would be absolutely delighted to finish top ten however, the competition is fierce, and we would be satisfied with a class win.
“Last year, we finished eighth in the Scottish Rally Championship, but other highlights from 2011 include our 14th placing in the national Wales Rally GB event.
“We lost the clutch for most of the second day which curtailed our progress, so it was a bit of a nail biting experience.”
Uniconn became involved with the rally team following a common interest between John and the company’s managing director, Dave Clark.
Dave is a rally enthusiast, having previously competed himself, and so jumped at the chance to sponsor John, who has experience both as a driver and co-driver, and his team.
John continues, “We would like to extend our thanks to Dave and our sponsors as we enter this next stage. Without their support we couldn’t compete.”
Dave Clark adds, “The car is looking fantastic and we will be right behind John and Peter as they compete – we wish them all the very best of luck!”
The Coltel Granite City Rally kicks off this Saturday at 9am.
