VISITORS to some of Scotland’s biggest tourist attractions are being asked to participate in ‘The Big Fish’ as they go about their business this week.
St Andrews Aquarium in Fife, which has just completed a three month-long refreshment of their aquatic displays, have released a shoal of 200 cuddly fish into some of Scotland’s most iconic locations, ready for members of the public to find.
The lucky ‘anglers’ will win a free trip to the Aquarium and the chance to be an aquarist for the day.
The cuddly fish, which are more accustomed to being in the outdoors than their aquatic cousins, are tagged with a label clearly asking the members of the public who find them to ‘Take Me Home’.
John Mace, managing director of St Andrews Aquarium, said: “We’ve recently completed an upgrade of a number of our displays in the Aquarium including Scotland’s largest Seahorse display.
“To celebrate the fact we now have hundreds of species of fish in the building, we thought it would be fun to create a ‘Big Fish’ where everyone has a chance to catch a shark, a baby clownfish or even an octopus.”
He added: “We have an expert team of cuddly Aquarists who are positioning the fish in some of Scotland’s most iconic tourist destinations over the next two weeks and there are 200 fish to be found the length and breadth of the country.
“Everyone who finds the fish has a chance to win the opportunity to work with our Aquarist for the day when they come to the aquarium just by sharing a photo of them and their cuddly catch on our Facebook page.”
Keen to expand on their success as one of Fife’s top tourist destinations, St Andrews Aquarium has invested heavily over the winter period in developing new aquatic displays and refreshing older displays to ensure a quality experience for all visitors.
The new displays include Wolf Eels, Mudskippers, Scotland’s largest display of seahorses, two baby African Spurred Tortoises (which can grow to as much as one foot wide), bearded dragons, a carpet python, scorpions and two of the world’s biggest spiders: The Goliath Bird Eating Spider and a Steely Blue Legged Tarantula.
