SHOPPERS are invited to take a walk up The Avenue Shopping Centre in Newton Mearns into ASDA this Saturday for the last chance to participate in a community fundraising raffle and a chance to win a spa day at Parklands.
Having already raised some £500 from last week’s raffle, breast cancer survivor Joan Robertson will return this Saturday 3rd March between 12 noon and 4pm to help raise funds for breast cancer charities ahead of her Pink Ball, the event she’s organised to celebrate her five year all clear mark at the Glasgow Hilton Hotel on 24th March.
Michelle McCabe, Centre Manager at The Avenue, said: “We congratulate Joan on her full recovery from breast cancer and would encourage shoppers to pop into ASDA this Saturday to pick up a raffle ticket or two for such a worthwhile cause – and a chance to win a spa day in the process!”
Speaking of her ordeal, Joan said: “I’m so grateful for the help and support I received from staff at the Victoria Infirmary and from all my colleagues and friends throughout my treatment and rehabilitation.
“I appreciate how lucky I’ve been to be back in full health and living life to the full. However, it is a real shock when you are diagnosed with such a terrible disease and I want to give something back to help other women who are experiencing the agony of battling breast cancer.
“We hope to raise £50,000, which will be split amongst several breast cancer charities, with particular emphasis on grass roots requirements at a local level. Ticket sales are going well, but we can still squeeze in a few more tables!”
Joan’s Pink Ball will be hosted by Radio Clyde’s Gina McKie, with music from ‘Replay’ and DJ Fox MacLeod, along with auctions, raffles and a champagne reception on arrival.
