A NEW-start smart phone application business could bring a more convenient method of booking a taxi within Aberdeen city and shire.
TaxiApp is being launched by a trio of young Aberdeen professionals, who set-up Whaapp Limited last year to develop web and smart phone-based multimedia applications.
The three directors – Craig Angus, Eleanor Powell-Jackson and Craig Burnett – are currently involved in the commercial and operational aspects of the oil and gas industry in Aberdeen and London.
Taxiapp will be the first application launched during 2012 and will allow users to instantly book a taxi through their mobile phone. The app will register the users’ location through GPS, alerting registered taxi firms who can accept the fare and collect the customer directly from their location.
The app is due to be launched and piloted in Aberdeen city and shire from late spring of this year and then developed to expand into London and other UK cities.
Chief executive officer, Craig Angus, said: “We’re excited about releasing TaxiApp in Aberdeen. We are currently in discussions with a number of local and national taxi firms to work with them through the implementation phase. Aberdeen city and shire will be our first launch area.”
“TaxiApp will enable users to conveniently book a taxi pick-up from their current location or order for a future time and location,” added Craig.
Whaapp Limited has already been awarded a £5,250 grant from the Prince’s Scottish Youth Business Trust with the potential for further ‘accelerator’ loans available over the next six to 24 months.
The rapidly growing smart phone market together with the development of new technology has resulted in consumers looking for innovative products that can make their lives more convenient.
As of July 2011, it has been estimated that there are 200 million Apple App Store clients who have cumulatively downloaded over 15 billion apps.
