THE Competition Appeals Tribunal (CAT) have confirmed the price of calling mobile phones from a landline will be reduced by 85 per cent by April 2015.
It is believed the cuts are going to be introduced progressively over the next three years, seeing the cost per minute falling from 4.18p to 0.65p, with an expected £800m in savings for UK households.
The cost of calling mobile phones from landlines has been falling since April 2011 when Ofcom announced a reduction in mobile termination rates: “The wholesale charges that mobile operators make to other operators to connect calls to their networks.” Since April 2011, the cap has been in place for the four mobile networks currently operating in the UK; O2, Everything Everywhere, Vodafone and 3UK.
