THE Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice today joined an elite club by hailing its very own branded cab, courtesy of Glasgow Taxis Ltd.

Staff, volunteers and patients were the first to see the new Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice-embossed taxi, when it picked up its inaugural fare at the Clyde-side based charity.

The Hospice is in good company with its new mobilised promotional vehicle, joining other well-know organisations including Radio Clyde, drinks giant Irn-Bru, Greaves Sports, CitizenM and Swarovski.

Glasgow Taxis Ltd, Scotland’s largest taxi company, has covered the £500 cost of wrapping the cab after nominating the Hospice as one of its chosen charities.

The east end-based company also waived the annual £2,700 advertising costs and the taxi will now promote the appeal’s brand throughout the city and beyond in a two-year deal.

Stephen Flynn, vice-chair of Glasgow Taxis Ltd, said the company is delighted to continue supporting and promoting the work of the Hospice.

He said: “Glasgow Taxis Ltd has developed an affinity with The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice over a number of years.

“As the charity’s official transport provider, we work closely with them and many of our drivers have developed great relationships with the team at the Hospice and their patients.

“The support work carried out by the staff and volunteers at The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice, as well as the dedication shown for their patients’ well-being, is extremely humbling and we were happy to help out in any way we could.

“Glasgow Taxis Ltd is proud to promote and support the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice.”

The white cab will carry the Hospice’s new brightly-coloured appeal logo, phone number and website on the sides and back of the vehicle.

It will also feature the strapline “Building the Future of Glasgow’s Hospice”, relating to the Hospice’s appeal to fund the construction of a new state-of-the art facility.

Rhona Baillie, chief executive of the Hospice, said: “We have been very fortunate to benefit from the generous support and professional service of Glasgow Taxis Ltd for many years.

“We’re absolutely delighted to be part of the unveiling of the Hospice taxi today and would like to extend our sincere thanks for such a kind donation which will really raise the profile of the new hospice appeal in and around the city.”

About The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice

The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice, situated on the river Clyde in Glasgow, exists to help our patients with life-limiting and terminal illness achieve the best quality of life possible in whatever time remains for them. This is done by providing clinical, emotional, social and spiritual care and support for patients, their families, children and carers. All care is free of charge with annual running costs for the Hospice will reach £4.2 million this year of which £2.8 million must come from fundraising and voluntary donations.

In March 2011, the Hospice announced plans to build a new facility in Glasgow, due for completion in 2016. In addition to enhancing existing services for adults, it will also encompass a specialist palliative care service for young people aged between 15-25 years-old. A proposal for the new Hospice to be located on a site next to Bellahouston Park is currently under consideration by Glasgow City Council.
