AWARD-winning Edinburgh hairdresser, Charlie Miller, founder of his eponymous company, has received an OBE in the Queen’s New Year 2012 Honours List in recognition for services to hairdressing.
Charlie says: “I am deeply grateful to Her Majesty The Queen. I share this award with my talented and supportive family and the many people with whom I have worked along the journey. It’s a beautiful happening in my life.”
The top stylist – who in 2009 celebrated 50 years in hairdressing – is considered to be the first Scottish hairdresser to be honoured with an OBE.
Says a spokesperson: “Amongst the cream of the hairdressing industry, Charlie has won or been nominated for several of the world’s most coveted hairdressing awards.
“The most important focus over the years has been about answering the needs of each and every client; to motivate and encourage staff to evolve with a caring and inspirational heart and to focus on creating an image that captures a client’s specific needs and lifestyle.
“Over the years Charlie, has styled the hair of many VIPs and celebrities including Sean Connery, Donna Karan and the late Lesley Neilson. Even the Dalai Lama shaves his head monthly using a clipper given to him by Charlie.”
After hanging up his full-time scissors in 1998 Charlie continued to focus on the company’s marketing, PR and business development and since 2007 has become committed to personally cutting and styling wigs for Teenage Cancer Trust teenagers and young people undergoing cancer treatment.
Charlie is also a patron of Castlebrae High School in Edinburgh and on the Board of the Centre for Confidence and Wellbeing.
