AUDIENCE members keen to get a little closer to Scottish Opera’s internationally celebrated production of Tosca are now able to support individual roles in the production, name a performance or enjoy a special access-all-arias package with behind the scenes treats.
Set in 1930s Italy, in the shadow of Mussolini’s brutal regime, this much-loved production was first seen in 1980, and has since been performed in opera houses around the world including Boston, New Zealand and Spain.
Up for grabs in the Company’s latest Play a Supporting Role campaign include the principal roles: the tragic heroine Tosca (Susannah Glanville); noble artist and lover Cavaradossi (José Ferrero); scheming Chief of Police Baron Scarpia (Robert Poulton); as well as other roles like political fugitive Angelotti, the King and Queen of Italy, choristers, soldiers of the firing squad, Swiss Guards and Mussolini himself.
The production, originally directed by Anthony Besch, will be revived by Jonathan Cocker and conducted by music director, Francesco Corti.
Maestro Corti said: “I am thrilled to be conducting Tosca later this season. It was one of the first operas I ever saw and is a lifelong favourite. Please lend your support and help us bring this wonderful production to theatres around Scotland. Grazie!”
The production opens at the Theatre Royal in Glasgow on 4 May 2012 and tours to Inverness, Edinburgh and Aberdeen, until 9 June.
