IT recently won renown as one of Britain’s most vibrant public spaces, but now Merchant Square in Merchant City, the heart of Glasgow’s cultural, fashion and food quarter, is set to crank up the excitement levels at its special Hogmanay party.
This year’s Merchant Square Hogmanay Party looks set to be bigger and better than ever before. And that’s not because an influx of revellers is anticipated due to the cancellation of the traditional Hogmanay party at George Square, but because of the fantastic night of entertainment that’s been lined up alongside the indisputably attractive attributes unique to the venue itself.
The Merchant Square Hogmanay Party offers eight venues, four bands, one dance floor and one party, all under a covered canopy of stars in the heart of the stylish Merchant City.
Hosted by well-known radio personality, Gina McKie, and radio DJ, Colin McArdle, the event will feature live music performances from Feeva, Miss Gaga, Knowing Me Knowing You and The Paul McKenna Band. The entertainment includes a piper at midnight, a balloon drop, cannon confetti and much more! The festivities continue from 8pm till 1am.
Jenni Morrison, of Merchant Square, said: “It’s a shame that the George Square event was axed, but The Merchant Square Hogmanay Party has grown in popularity each year and we hope to make up for the loss of the George Square event with our extra special bumper party this year.
“Last year’s arctic conditions meant that tickets for our Hogmanay party were snapped up quicker than ever before by revellers seeking to add some sparkle into Hogmanay under a glittering canopy of stars in a safe and warm, celebratory environment. Revellers in search of the best Hogmanay party in Glasgow can come to Merchant Square for the only Hogmanay street party the weather can’t spoil!”
Tickets, priced £20, are available at all participating Merchant Square outlets.
The Merchant Square is Glasgow’s most vibrant venue for a worldwide selection of cafes, bars and restaurants, including: Bar Square, Beer Café, Sizzlers Steakhouse & Ocean Grill, Fanelli’s, Metropolitan, Boudoir Wine Bar, Arisaig and Mercado.
Located on Candleriggs, Merchant Square, once part of the old Glasgow Fruit Market, is imbued with the history of the area’s dominating Victorian architecture, although today this sense of history blends seamlessly with the distinctly cosmopolitan ambiance that pervades the surrounding cobbled streets that bring the outside in.
