COOKIE, the award-winning eatery in Glasgow’s southside, has launched its own label red table wine, an ideal stocking-filler this Christmas.
Imported by Cookie, the wine is made from merlot and sangiovese grapes of Umbria by Alessandro Paciaccioni, who runs a small, family-owned winery called Sandonna in Italy’s ‘green heart’, Umbria.
Cookie co-founder, Domenico Del Priore, said: “Alessandro is renowned in Umbria for the exceptional quality of his wine. Cookie is his biggest client and, together, we developed our house wine for Scotland. Having initially sold it exclusively in the restaurant, in response to customer demand we have now finally bottled it for distribution.
“We think we have managed to bring a great farm wine and put it in a bottle while retaining its original flavour. This is a rare wine that simply isn’t available anywhere else in the UK. Only just introduced, it has already received a massive immediate response from our customers who have been impatiently awaiting its arrival.
“Our aim has been to bring to Scotland an exceptional red wine at a contained cost; a wine that is drinkable and that people immediately respond to; a wine which makes us all think of being on holiday in the beautiful landscape of an Italian hill top town. This is great Vino Rosso, full of fruit and youth with three months in French oak barrels to smooth the edges.”
In addition to its wine, other stocking-fillers available from Cookie this Christmas are its new batch of black truffles and olive oil, freshly pressed from Umbria.
“We’ve just taken delivery of our peppery green and grassy new olive oil from Umbria; one of the best in the world,” said Del Priore.
“As Umbria sits geographically in the middle of Italy, its olive oil balances the intensity of southern olive oil with the lightness of northern oil.”
Cookie’s 0,75l 13.5% vol red table wine, non-filtered, produced and bottled at origin in Sandonna, is on sale for £7.99 at Cookie and Maxwell’s off-sales on Nithsdale Road.
Named Glasgow Newcomer of the Year 2010 for breaking the mould of local eating and drinking, Cookie is based at 72 Nithsdale Road, Pollokshields, Glasgow. For further information about Cookie log on to www.cookiescotland.com
