INVERURIE’S Davidsons Specialist Butchers has been named the best butcher’s shop in the UK at a prestigious ceremony in London.
The Burn Lane shop, headed by John Davidson, was announced as the Scottish Butcher’s Shop of the Year for the second year running at The Landmark Hotel yesterday (Wednesday, November 16th), coming out on top to beat competition from finalists in Airdrie and Glasgow to retain the title.
The shop then went on to take the British national title, beating off stiff competition from five other regional winners to claim the overall title of the UK’s best butcher’s shop.
The judges found that Davidsons Specialists Butchers’ focus on “superb products, training and new technology” made the butcher a “leading example of what can be achieved.”
They added: “Even John Davidson’s 65 year-old father is on an apprenticeship course, one of nine butchers from the shop on government grant-funded training schemes. The business has embraced new technology with an intranet for staff, a presence on Twitter – which has helped develop new business ideas and contacts – and on Facebook, which is more customer focused.”
The award double for Davidsons Specialist Butchers comes hot on the heels of a diamond award and six gold awards for products at the recent 2011 Smithfield Awards.
Commenting on his shop being crowned UK Butcher’s Shop of the year, John Davidson said: “Winning this prestigious award is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team and I am delighted that this has been recognised by this renowned and sought-after accolade.”
