BONHAMS Edinburgh auction house is holding its next sporting sale on November 10th with a wide range of international sporting memorabilia steeped in tradition.
Forget the trend of embellished leather collars, the epitome of style for your four-legged friend comes in the form of an engraved white metal dog collar featured in the upcoming sale.
Modelled by Bonhams whisky expert, Martin Green’s pointer, this collar is certainly not for everyday use, but is the expression of love and respect from a master to his hound.
The collar would have typically been worn by Gun dogs and features the engraving, ‘Lead on. I will follow Thee to the last gasp, with love & loyalty.’
Also featured in the sale is the a large leather tackle trunk by J Bernard & Sons, from the 1900s, with compartmented interior containing numerous black japanned metal boxes with an assortment of flies and with fitted canvas cover.
Miranda Grant, managing director of Bonhams Scotland, says:
“Scotland’s beautiful rural landscapes have maintained strong associations of sport throughout the country’s highlands and lowlands for centuries.
“From collectables relating to the traditional field sports to sporting pictures, sporting art is a truly exciting field genre and we are delighted to be home to the sale of this array of internationally sourced collector items this autumn.”
The sale will include paintings, silver, jewellery, fishing tackle, glass, works of art, ceramics, bronzes and more dedicated to the traditional field sports including racing, shooting, hunting, stalking, dogs, polo, etc.
