THE latest additions to the St Andrews Aquarium’s growing meerkat clan, Frank, Goldie & Myrrh, are currently in preparation for a starring role in their very own nativity this winter.
The three meerkats, which are the third litter born to Kate & Wills this year, have recently started to venture out into the meerkat enclosure which is currently decorated in a desert setting.
However, a pre-Christmas surprise awaits them as Aquarium bosses are planning a nativity themed enclosure for the inhabitants in the run up to Christmas this year.
John Mace, manager of St Andrews Aquarium, commented: “We were giving some thought to Christmas decorations this year and, traditionally, the Aquarium hasn’t been open at this time of year so we don’t have any decorations in stock.
“So we decided to do things a little bit differently, converting the meerkat enclosure into a Christmas nativity scene complete with Star of Bethlehem backdrops, a stable and a manger.
“The meerkats are curious creatures and like to play in their surroundings so it’s very likely that Frank, Goldie & Myrrh who are the three babies of the herd, will take centre stage in this festive production along with their parents Kate & Wills, and their five brothers and sisters, the Famous Five. We’re certain our visitors will enjoy it too!”
The Meerkat Nativity will launch on Saturday 12th November at St Andrews Aquarium as part of a unique fun packed day for visitors which includes Santa’s arrival, free Santa visits, face painting, balloon modelling, festive fish talks and nibbles.
Tickets cost £12 for adults and £10 for children and include access to the Aquarium and all the activities.
Tickets can be booked in advance online at www.standrewsaquarium.co.uk
