SCOTTISH family butcher, Simon Howie’s Auchterarder shop, has won the Fresh Produce Retailer of the Year category at the Scottish Independent Retail Awards 2011.
Accepting the award was Andrew Staal, the recentl- appointed managing director of Simon Howie Foods, who said: “I’m delighted to accept this award on behalf of Stewart and all the team at Auchterarder who do so much to ensure that their customers receive the best possible service and products.
“Our friendly, knowledgeable staff at our outlets in Auchterarder, and Perth, are justly renowned for their helpfulness, expertise and eagerness to prepare any cut of meat their customers require – and to advise them on how best to cook it.”
Congratulating Simon Howie Butchers on its award, Jim McLaren, chair of Quality Meat Scotland, the public body responsible for helping the Scottish red meat sector maximise its contribution to Scotland’s economy, said: “This award is well-deserved and provides further welcome evidence that, through the provision of excellent quality service and produce, independent butchers can compete with multiple retailers by providing a top-class, personal offering.
“With retailers like Simon Howie Butchers leading the way, the outlook for the Scottish red meat sector is encouraging, despite the challenging economic environment within which all retailers presently operate.”
The aim of the Scottish Independent Retail Awards 2011 is to highlight the value of independent retailers to the communities and country they operate within; showcasing the diversity within the industry, recognising and rewarding the entrepreneurial spirit and business acumen which lies behind thriving independent retailers.
Simon Howie Butchers was presented with its Scottish Independent Retail Award at a glittering ceremony in Glasgow last week, hosted by broadcaster and journalist Alison Walker and sponsored by United Cash & Carry.
Simon Howie Butchers’ two shops are located at 112 High Street, Auchterarder and at 270 High Street Perth.
