ONE of UK’s largest and most prestigious corporate team development events, The Intelligent Sport® UK Challenge, last night seized the title for Best Corporate Event at the Scottish Event Awards – at a glittering awards ceremony in Edinburgh.
The IMG Challenger World event, which was hosted by The Macdonald Aviemore Resort in 2010, is held annually in different locations each year and attracts over 700 participants from some of the Europe’s biggest companies and top management teams.
The challenge is also used as a powerful platform for charity fundraising with over £450,000 raised at the Aviemore event for the NSPCC and Children’s First by the teams taking part.
The race towards the finish line for IMG Challenger World’s flagship event met stiff competition from the RAC Rally of Scotland, but in the end proved to have the winning edge with judges, overtaking the Rally at the final furlong to claim the title on the night.
The Intelligent Sport® UK Challenge is held just once a year and pushes the best UK business minds and bodies to their very limits over eight stages, four days and three nights.
Based on three fundamental principles (strategy, intelligence and teamwork) corporate teams work through various missions that put to them to the test both mentally and physically.
The event culminates on the Saturday evening with an awards ceremony and a well-deserved party.
In 2010, the event travelled to Aviemore and the Cairngorms National Park, providing a tough test for participants amid some of Scotland’s most beautiful and iconic scenes.
Organisers praised Highland Council, the Cairngorms National Park and the MacDonald Highland Resort for being so welcoming and helping them to create a corporate challenge that was world-class.
Among some of the top names in global business taking part, there were several teams from Scotland, including Scottish Widows, RAF Lossiemouth, OSI Pharmaceuticals, Front Line Construction and Registers of Scotland.
Julia Warne, IMG Challenger World said “Having delivered these events across the world from Pennsylvania to Nice, Donegal and Mayrhofehen, I can wholeheartedly say that Aviemore ‘more’ than delivered.
“From ancient woodlands to nature reserves, wilderness areas to breath-taking mountains. It was simply world-class.”
Commenting on the title win, Julia continued: “We’re absolutely delighted that The Intelligent Sport® UK Challenge has been recognised so highly at the Scottish Event Awards.
“This is testimony to the exceptional planning and event execution that IMG Challenger World can deliver and I am just thrilled to be taking this trophy back to London and even more excited to announce that the event will be returning to Scotland in 2012.”
IMG Challenger World are part of IMG, the world’s largest sports and entertainment company. Other events include the Marie Curie Cancer Care Etape Caledonia held annually in Perthshire, Sky Ride Etape Hibernia held annually in County Clare, the Virgin Active London Triathlon and the Blenheim Triathlon.
