THE People’s Bible, the national tour which will produce an unique, hand-written edition of the Bible, comes to The Avenue Shopping Centre in Newton Mearns on Tuesday 13 September from 10am till 7pm.
In the year of the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible, The People’s Bible project aims to reconnect the British public with the Bible.
To mark the anniversary, the people of the UK are being asked to help to hand write a digital Bible.
Each person will write two verses which they can later view online.
As part of the Avenue’s programme of events to mark Mearns Community Week, from Saturday 10th – Sunday 18th September, the mall will host the Scribe Pods for the People’s Bible, enabling visitors to make their mark in history.
Michelle McCabe, centre manager at The Avenue, said: “This is your chance to write the Bible by hand – starting at the book of Genesis, right through to the book of Revelation. It’s your opportunity to be part of history.
“The project has been well received, not just by churches, but also by the local history group and libraries – and by remaining open till 7pm, we are enabling participation from as wide a section of the local community as possible, from schoolchildren to office workers.”
The People’s Bible project began in June and is making its way around the UK.
The tour ends with a special ceremony and presentation to the Queen in Westminster Abbey in November.
The Avenue Shopping Centre offers shoppers an alternative to sprawling trolley-dash shopping culture with a comprehensive range of outlets offering a warm and welcoming shopping experience conveniently located on the outskirts of Glasgow city centre.
