A DISUSED Perthshire Control Tower, dating back to the Second World War, is to be transformed into one of the most state-of-the art homes in Scotland.
The collection of homes at Clathymore, Gleneagles, developed by Perth-based Stephen Country Homes, is set to be complimented by the conversion of a 1940s building located on the edge of the site.
The company plans to convert the three-storey building into the most contemporary home it has ever created in its 75 year history, hot on the heels of Clathymore achieving ‘finalist’ status in the ‘Rural Development of the Year’ category of the Scottish Home Awards 2011.
The building is currently of typical Royal Naval Air Station design, once located on the edge of RAF Findo Gask airfield and previously forming part of a group of around 60 WWII structures.
Being transformed in conjunction with the development’s architect, James Denholm, the iconic structure had fallen into disrepair.
With works now underway, the four-bedroomed home, to be marketed for sale with a guide price of £1.75m, will stand in the shadow of significant and well-documented historical activity.
The Control Tower was in use from June 1941 until September 1948.

The existing building is essentially a cube on three floors with a flat roof and a cantilevered balcony.
The plans for its rebirth add a four-storey extension to the rear of the building which will house the stairs and a lift, culminating in a dramatic sun room linked to a roof terrace.
