FOLLOWING the cancellation of Glasgow’s annual hogmanay party in George Square, the owners of nearby Merchant Square have sought to allay fears that city centre revellers seeking somewhere to celebrate New Year would be left with no where to go by announcing plans for a grand hogmanay party.
Revellers in search of the best hogmanay party in Glasgow are invited to come round to the Merchant Square in Merchant City, the heart of the city’s cultural, fashion and food quarter, for the only hogmanay street party the weather can’t spoil!
Jenni Morrison, of Merchant Square, said: “It’s a real shame that the George Square event has been axed, but our own hogmanay party has been growing in popularity each year and we hope to make up for the loss of the George Square event by planning an extra special bumper party this year.
“Last year’s arctic conditions meant that tickets for our Hogmanay party were snapped up quicker than ever before by revellers seeking to add some sparkle into hogmanay under a glittering canopy of stars by bringing the outside in, bidding goodbye to the old year and bringing in the new at Merchant Square.
“And since the George Square event is no more, this year, we expect our party to be even bigger and better than ever before!”
The party, which starts at 9pm and lasts through to 1am, features a full roster of entertainment, including tribute acts Miss Gaga, Knowing Me, Knowing You, Feeva, a piper to bring in the bells, a balloon drop and a confetti cannon.
The Merchant Square is Glasgow’s most vibrant venue for a worldwide selection of cafes, bars and restaurants, including: Bar Square; Beer Café; Sizzlers Steakhouse & Ocean Grill; Fanelli’s; Metropolitan; Boudoir Wine Bar; Arisaig; O’Neill’s and Mercado.
Located on Candleriggs, Merchant Square, once part of the old Glasgow Fruit Market, is imbued with the history of the area’s dominating Victorian architecture, although today this sense of history blends seamlessly with the distinctly cosmopolitan ambiance that pervades the surrounding cobbled streets that bring the outside in.
