FALKIRK Council recently welcomed a new talent to their Road Services team, thanks to Skills Development Scotland’s (SDS) Targeted Pathways to Apprenticeships initiative.
With support from her local SDS careers centre, local girl, Carey Nicoll, was able to draft a formal, presentable CV and take advice on how to approach local companies in her job search.
Carey received a letter from Falkirk Council’s Employment and Training unit advertising an opportunity for a young person to join their team in an administration role.
Carey impressed with her strong drive and growing confidence so much that she was offered the chance to become a full-time Modern Apprentice and complete her SVQ level 2 in Administration with the Road Services department.
Carey said: “My role in the office can be challenging but it is always interesting as I have the opportunity to give assistance to everyone in the team. They all give me tips and advice, which is great to have on top of my vocational learning.”
Angela Ford, Carey’s manager is happy with her apprentice’s progress: “Carey has fitted in really well to the Admin office. She is very pleasant, hard working and a well liked member of the team now.”
SDS is calling out to employers to participate in the first ever Scottish Apprenticeship week 5-9 September 2011.
